Great success!
The weather: 80 degrees, 40% humidity
After a 10 minute drive, it was showing a 52 degree front vent temp (which is 10-12 feet from the evaporator) It must be fricking freezing back there.
Finally.
After changing some !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , waiting for my Canada juice and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I ran into some wiring issues with the thermostat and was left in the driveway screaming, "YU NO WORK!

After repeated forum visits, diagram reading, wire testing, and driveway beers, I learned more about AC wiring and function than I cared to learn this week. Tracing back the clutch circuit to see where I was losing it led me to the Evaporator Thermostatic Switch and the sensor that was burred deep in the goddamn evaporator - which is mounted on the rear ceiling encased in the best brittle plastic Germany had to offer in 1987.
After dropping the damn thing again, it seemed to solve itself. It was one of those electrical issues that seemed to solve themselves. My only guess is that I disturbed some wires when had the rear unit down while my fists were up there with some wrenches.

It was more "cold", than "cool," but thanks!

Can you believe no one on Google Images has a "Cool Story Bro" image with snow in it?

My A/C never worked because of the autolamps/sunload sensor: Little bugger . Now I have working autolamps and A/C!!

I've got to tear apart my wifes AC system I just upgraded in her '83 300D. I suspect the condesner has a blockage so I am going to swap it out for a parallel flow condenser. I already replaced every o-ring, the expansion valve, the R4 compressor has been swapped out with a kit for a sanden 7 cylinder and associated hoses. It's cooling well but the compressor is making a noise like its under too much pressure so I need to evac and replace that thing and recharge it all. I think I am honestly going to keep an eye out for a professional AC charging and evac system for 134a. R12 would probably cost an arm

How about this?

Look into the Red Tek. It's this Canadian R12 substitute created for farming equipment and commercial vehicles. The old limo and bus love it to It's better suited for the old R12 systems than that hi-pressure R134 stuff.
I had to change the oil in my compressor and blow the lines with air brake cleaner (because the oil I had in the system wasn't compatible with the RedTek), and replace the dryer, but I think it was worth it.

I've got 7 cans of ES-12. It's an R12 substitute that is essentially propane with an evergreen scent to it. I might give that a try

I think the time has come for me to do similar. Got a hot air blast in the face when I last cranked my AC.
